Marine Medical Examination
*A Marine Medical Certificate is a document that demonstrates a seafarer has met both the medical and physical standards required by Canadian law.
what happens in the exam?
A certified Transport Canada physician will review the applicant's general health, look for pre-existing medical conditions and establish a medical baseline for ongoing monitoring. Examinations includes; hearing, testing of visual acuity, colour vision, Urinalysis, and other physical requirements ( (listen to heart & lungs, blood pressure, heart rate, reflexes, etc.)
How long is the certificate valid?
It is valid for 2 years, after that you must take a new seafarer medical or mariner medical exam
Who pays for this service?
This exam falls outside the coverage provided by MSP. However, some employers may cover the cost of the examination.
What do I need to bring with myself?
Photo ID (Preferably a passport or driving licence)Your current ENG1 or equivalent if you have oneThe name, address and contact details of your family doctor if you have oneA list of any medication(s) you are takingYou will also need to have a CDN number
*If you do not have a CDN number, go to the Transport Canada Marine website and a number will be issued to you
